Do I need to have x-rays?

Do I need to have x-rays?

To prevent dental decay and gum disease, we recommend scheduling a recall appointment every 3-6 months. Dental x-rays are taken every 12-24 months, depending on your oral health and history.

Dental x-rays allow your Lower Templestowe Dentist to see between your teeth and find emerging cavities that may not be visible during your exam. X-rays also help us diagnose other conditions and plan dental treatments, including dental implants.

In the event of a dental emergency, we may also opt to take x-rays if the cause of your pain is not immediately obvious.

Fortunately, in our dental clinic, we rely on digital x-rays, which means low radiation exposure compared with traditional radiographs. Digital x-rays provide clear and resizable images, and they are also safe for the environment because they do not require developer film or disposal. In fact, we file your x-rays electronically for easy access and safekeeping. This method of storage also allows us to share your x-rays via computer with your health fund provider or a consultant.

If You Have Questions, We Are Here to Provide Answers

If you have any questions about our digital x-rays or digital storage, we encourage you to give us a call. If it's time for your next dental check-up and teeth clean, we also welcome you to reach out to a team member.

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
