Protecting your Teeth during the Holiday Season

Well, that was a quick year! I don’t know about you, but I feel like I blinked in March and suddenly it’s December. Since it is now heading into the holiday season, we thought we would put some of our LTDE Top Dental Tips together for getting through this time of craziness.

Teeth are not bottle openers

Our aim is for you to get through December without all you are wanting for Christmas is your two front teeth after you opened that beer bottle with your teeth at the Work Office Party. Which is where we start with our top tips. DO NOT OPEN ANYTHING WITH YOUR TEETH! Your teeth are strong but not that strong so don’t test them.

Give Hard Lollies a miss

As festive as Candy Canes and Gumdrops are, they can start a sugar party in your mouth with prolonged exposure from taking a long time to dissolve or risk of cracking a tooth from biting on them. BUT if visions of sugar plums are making you crave the sweet treat, be sure to drink lots of water after to rinse your mouth.

Think about your drink

We know what it’s like, there are so many social events with drinks flowing and relaxing with friends and family. However, be mindful about your drinks of choice. The sugar content, alcohol and bubbles can cause erosion on your teeth. How can you work around this and still have a great time? Add Ice to dilute your drinks, drink through a straw, drink water between “fun drinks” and don’t brush your teeth straight after drinking or eating sugar as the teeth become softer- wait 30mins to an hour before brushing.

Enjoy the cheese board!

Keep up your teeth friendly snacks with entertaining platters with cheeses, fruit, and vegetables. Just be careful of those stray pits in the marinated olives!

Keep up your regular oral hygiene

I know you just want to go straight to bed but get back up and go to the bathroom; wash your face and clean your teeth! You will feel so much better for it and your body will thank you.

For anything else we will be right here waiting for you ready for your regular maintenance appointments in the new year!

Hope you have a happy, safe, and magical Christmas and New Year.
