A Dental Receptionist will look you straight in the eye and say, “ok let’s book that in for in 6 months and 1 day, December 8th, 3pm?” Sounds bizarre organising your life so far in advance, doesn’t it?! But there is method to the madness, it is all in the name of keeping your mouth health in good condition and making it a priority in your life. Regular dental check-ups and cleans are an essential part of maintaining good oral health. While brushing and flossing at home are important, there are certain things that can only be done by a professional. Here are some reasons why you should schedule a dental check-up and clean every six months.

Prevent Cavities

One of the most common diseases in the world is Tooth Decay, which is preventable. During your visit, your dentist will check for any signs of decay and treat it before it becomes a larger problem. They will also provide advice on how to prevent cavities in the future, such as by brushing and flossing regularly and avoiding sugary foods and drinks.

Prevent Gum Disease

If your mouth fills with blood while brushing and flossing, it is a sign of Gum Disease. Gum disease happens when there is a build-up of bacteria and calculus under the gum line. If left untreated, it can lead to bone and tooth loss. Not to mention the bad breath to top it off. To treat this condition, your dental professional needs to clean away all the bacteria which can not be done at home. They will check the bone loss in the areas and advise a plan to care for your gum health.

Detect Oral Cancer

When your dental professional is examining your mouth, they are not only examining your teeth, but they are also doing a scan of your full mouth. They are looking for lumps, bumps and lesions that could be associated with Oral Cancer which could otherwise go unnoticed. The mouth environment is constantly being put through harsh conditions so being checked everything 6 months is best to detect changes early.

Save Money

We understand dental can be a big expense on your budget but, having regular check and cleans saves you money in the long run. The smaller the problem, the cheaper it is to fix. The longer issues are left, the bigger the problem becomes and more expensive the treatment. Short term investment for the long term pay off. Many of us spend more money yearly on new iPhone’s, nail appointments, hair appointments or a night out – your teeth are worth the investment.

Keeping a Bright and Healthy Smile

Who wouldn’t want their teeth looking bright and healthy all the time? Having clean teeth boosts your confidence and will make you want to smile at everyone you see. It is about caring for your health and keeping your teeth for life.

Coming to see your dental professional every 6 months is maintenance for your body and should be a priority for your overall health. Prevention is key and Check ups make sure your smile will stay with you for life.

See you at your next Check-up and Clean!
